A Morning Prayer

The sounds of the morning are like a prayer...birdsong and the chattering of small creatures; the soft sighing of breezes stirring through branches, whispering "be thankful". The ground, refreshed by rain, is soft and yielding, gardens nourished again. All around me, summer flowers offer their beauty to the moment.

Yes, I am thankful, simply this; to be here now, breathing the sun-kissed air, opening myself to the earth and sky. There is nothing more that I must do, in this experience of now, but to express my gratitude to God, the Source of it all and to sit, immersed in the wonder around me.

The words to a favorite song come to mind, as they often do:

How very special are we
For just a moment to be
Part of life’s eternal rhyme
How very special are we
To have on our family tree
Mother Earth and Father Time

He turns the seasons around
And so she changes her gown
But they always look in their prime
They go on dancing their dance
Of every lasting romance
Mother Earth and Father Time

The summer larks return to sing
Oh what a gift they give
Then autumn days grow short and cold
Oh what a joy to live

How very special are we
For just a moment to be
Part of life’s eternal rhyme
How very special are we
To have on our family tree
Mother Earth and Father Time

I hope that you will have a few moments today to just sit, observe and
be thankful to be a part of it all!
